Suits, Suits, Suits: Making material matter in professional culture

Workshop participants will travel to Manchester by train to visit the School of Materials of the University of Manchester (http://www.materials.manchester.ac.uk) and to undertake fieldwork in the city financial district.

Participants will be introduced to the design process and creativity in fashion design by Dr. Pammi Sinha of the School of materials and will be guided through the Textiles and Paper campus and main laboratories (clothing lab, cad lab, digital inkjet printing lab, weaving studio and laboratory, knitting laboratory, spinning lab, coloration and dyeing lab, printing lab, paper mill).

Following this visit, participants will walk to the financial district and will be free to observe and talk to business people, take notes and photos and investigate the making of material professional culture. Fieldwork experience and documents will inform subsequent work in the workshop.
